Garry was an amazing painter who painted for himself. born in Scotland, lived in London and painted around the world. his paintings sold over other famous artists in many galleries and art centers.
whilst painting in a cold garden shed 2008 – 2012 Garry made extensive notes for the bones of a book. come 2013 i thought i’d written a book but he was wrong. he thought all he had to do was edit and join up the notes. but it didn’t work like that.
in october, november and december 2013 the wrong hospital pretty much wrote itself – without reference to notes. notes were used only for the first chapter and for the dream sequence in which the queen of spades rapaciously pursues the prettiest star.
the wrong hospital is a true story. mostly. apart from the bits i made up. and as i’ve said – it pretty much wrote itself in three short months. with a little help from some shadows and a few paper boats.
we miss you Garry!
